"My name is Jorge Salazar Cruz, I am 23 years old. I was born on July 31, 2001 in the city of Dolores Hidalgo, although I have been in San Miguel de Allende.
When I was a child I had my first approaches with the computer in a cyber that my uncle had, there I could use the computers to play and do homework.
I liked it.
I discovered new tools and tricks that could be done on the computer to easily perform tasks. After a few years I became very good with computers and I could help my family and friends when they had problems.
When I entered the CBTIS 60 baccalaureate [local high school,] I discovered that there was an Olympiad programming in the state of Guanajuato, where they prepared students for the national stage. At that time I didn't know anything about programming, but I really wanted to learn and maybe stand out in the Olympiad. I enrolled and after much effort and study, I managed to pass the regional, state stage. I arrived at the National Olympiad, I participated as a team in the next state edition and also helped with the training of new generations. I have participated in different state mathematics and physical competitions, hackathones, programming Olympiad. I am currently a member of Futurelab where we develop technology projects and share knowledge in workshops and member meetings. Another activity that I also enjoy is doing bicycle tours around San Miguel.
During the Olympiad process I met good friends from different parts of the country, as well as very good universities that offered a very good educational level, highlighting internationally. One of them and the one that convinced me the most for the advantages it presented is the University of Guanajuato (UG). Although very difficult, it is something I wanted to study because it gives you all the mathematical bases and principles of computing to be able to develop anything, such as artificial intelligence, networks, Machine Learning, etc. In the future, these matters will help humans carry out activities that would be very difficult , such as targeting people, in facial recognition, research, autonomous vehicles, medicine, etc.
At the end of the university I would like to work in the development of tools that help all humanity, to create things, have fun, communicate and much more."
Your support and teachings were fundamental to get here, and for that I am deeply grateful to you…I thought about this moment, imagining what it would be like to reach this goal. Although I always visualized it as a great achievement, there was also the uncertainty of what would come next: being independent from my parents, making important decisions, and being responsible for my actions…Thanks to all the support I have received, I feel that I am ready for this moment…, to seek and accept opportunities with courage, without fear of what may go wrong, and focusing on what can go right.
Today, after a long process but full of learning and satisfaction, I can proudly say that I have successfully completed my bachelor's degree. In a few months I will receive the document that will formalize this achievement, but much more important for me is to recognize that I did not travel this path alone.
