| A Double Major Academic Superstar
LUIS RAMÍREZ
- Entered JA with the Class of 2025
- UNAM/UAM
- Sociology/Political Science
Some students are driven to succeed and challenge themselves at the highest possible level. Luis Ramírez is one of those rare cases: academically brilliant, clear and focused on what he wants, and driven at a young age to achieve it.
"Academically, I can say with certainty that it has been the most fulfilling year of my entire academic life. It was a year of closing cycles, of closing stages: high school ended, with all that it entails, and a new stage began, college. The stage of adolescence ended and I entered into legal adulthood, as I turned 18. In short, it was a year for which I feel deeply grateful to life.
I fought to get into the institutions of my choice. I took two entrance exams: the Universidad Nacional Autónomo de Mexico (UNAM) and the Universidad Autónomo Metropolitana (UAM.) I passed both. After seeing that it did not interfere with my priority (UNAM,) I decided to attend UAM simultaneously. For the next academic period, I will do everything in my power to continue studying at both institutions."
Comparative Analysis of the similarities between Sociology and Political Science as degrees.
"I reference two classics:
Weber states ‘Sociology [...] is a science that seeks to understand, to interpret social action so as to explain it casually in its development and effects.’
Aristotle says that: ‘Since politics makes use of the other sciences and prescribes what is, what should be done and what should be avoided; its purpose must encompass the purposes of others, so that the end of politics will be the human good.’
“Both revolve around an ontological field based on the social entity, that is, in the function of activities that involve people as humans. Therefore, while in political science I can learn the act of materializing theories into practice,
in sociology, I learn the very act of creating theories. The professional fields of sociology and of political science are limited to the use of statistical data. However, in complementary roles, they may be more potent than if they were separate.”
Practice (politics) cannot be exercised without theory (sociology) at the same time Theory (sociology) is meaningless without practice (politics).
